“Is so hard to talk to John about my case, because he is so wise, and because he loves me so”. His wisdom is, to say the least, open to question, but what about his love? Do you think he suffers merely from a failure of perception or there is a failure of affection as well?
I believe John suffers from a failure of affection because if he really loved his wife he should rather do anything to take care of her and to help her go on with her life. John does not want to see that she is really sick and needs something more than being looked in a room, sleeping and not working. He needs to be more affectionate with her and demonstrate his love to her, listening to her to be able to understand her sickness that maybe is only a lack of love that has made her fall in that depression. He could help her more than leaving her in that house that what is making her is to lose more her mental health. It is very sad that John is a doctor and he is not even able to cure his own wife.
